Lady Eagles' Senior Night

It was a bittersweet night for our seniors on the Varsity girls’ basketball team, for it was their last night playing on the Eagle’s nest. On January 20, our Lady Eagles played Doctors Charter and the crowd said goodbye to our two seniors Monique Harvey (captain) and Yokemmiya Doyle (co-Captain).

The night kicked off with our Lady Eagles starting off very slowly as they struggled with the Lady Hawks all night. In the first quarter, shots just weren’t falling and the offense seemed to stall. However, after the Eagles realized they needed to play together, they began to play like the team that we all knew they were.

At half time we had to say our goodbyes to our two seniors and we had to let them know they would be missed. Their hard work would not go unrecognized. After we shed a few tears we knew we had to get back to the game and beat the opponents on this special occasion.

The game was winding down, so we knew something had to happen. With less than a minute remaining, the score was tied after Daizsa Jones (9) made a three-pointer. Then, there were three seconds on the clock, and Doctors Charter had the ball. Their point guard threw the shot up and missed it, and we knew we had to go to overtime that night.

Our girls fought in this final four minutes and we came out on top and won the game. The final score was 38 to 30. It was a bittersweet night for us all as we were saying our last goodbyes but we want to thank the seniors for all of their hard work and dedication to the team and to NCA.
